This device functions entirely by gravity, without any mechanical, electric or electronic mechanism. It was designed in order to guarantee an optimal working under all circumstances owing to an automatic cleaning system of the sand filter and a double safety mechanism for disinfection. Its starting is extremely simple and does not require any skilled manpower.Owing to its simplicity, robustness and low cost, hydropur supersedes all the electromechanically powered water potabilisation devices available on the market. Moreover, these devices are often very expensive, hard to operate and unsuitable to the conditions met in the field.The results of hydropur are remarkable. It is indeed capable of transforming all kinds of water bacteriologically unsuitable for human consumption(w. H. O. ) owing to its ability to adapt to all levels of pollution.Hydropur is a large cylinder of 0.8 m in diameter and 2.2 m in height. It is thus very compact, which facilitates its transport and use. It is made out of stainless sheet steel of type 304. Its robust structure enables the hydropur to resist bad weather under tropical climates as show stations present at haiti since now more than 10 years. All the pipes are made out of food quality PVC.Hydropur has a flow ranging between 300 and 1500 l/h according to the quality of raw water, which thus makes it possible to satisfy the majority of the needs met by small communities for 1000 to 3000 people. If necessary, it is possible to place several devices and to use them then separately, which ensures a maximal flexibility.The technique used by hydropur is traditional and integrate just known and tested methods: Coagulation/flocculation/sedimentation, disinfection with chlorine, filtration on sand and activated carbon. All the advance of water and its treatment is carried out by simple gravity. Only the possible pumping of water requires energy.
